AN ADDRESS PRESENTED BY COUNCILLOR DIGHAMBONG ANTHONY MVO, LORD MAYOR OF THE WUM COUNCIL ON THE OCCASION OF THE REGIONAL COORDINATION MEEING OF MINHDU NORTH WEST, TODAY  28TH FEBRUARY 2014 IN THE WUM TOWN HALL.

  • THE SENIOR DIVISIONAL OFFICER MENCHUM DIVISION,
  • THE REGIONAL DELEGATE MINHDU NORTH WEST REGION,
  • THE DIVISIONAL DELEGATES OF MINHDU NORTH WEST REGION,
  • DISTINGUISHED LADIES AND GENTLEMEN;

It is with great anxiety, hope and enthusiasm that I stand privileged to be the host of your Regional coordination meeting. Occasions like this have been too few to miss, that I have had the opportunity to receive great technicians and engineers of the region. Once more on behalf of the Wum Municipality in particular and Menchum Division in general you are all welcomed.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen;
I would like to use this opportunity to thank the Minister of Housing and Urban Development for recognizing the potentials of the Wum Municipality that led to the signing of a Partnership Agreement in November 2011. This Partnership Agreement has helped the Council realize the following projects with MINHDU:

  • The tarring of TOTAL roundabout, Naikom junction to the Post office Junction.
  • Elaboration of the Summary Urban Plan for Wum.
  • The tarring of the market junction, Holy Trinity, Veterinary to Court Yard Street.
  •  Rehabilitation of some earth roads in Wum Town.

We however, regret that some of the projects like, the construction of a recreational park, the tarring of the palace roads of 3km, the tarring of Naikom junction to the S.D.O’s residence and studies for the creation of other recreational parks are still to be realized.
          The Council on her part of the Partnership Agreement has been able to realize, the delimitation of the Urban Perimeter, construction of a toilet block of five toilets, planting of a greenery amongst others.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen;
Permit me hail the cream of the Cameroonians I see here today, very optimistic and enthusiastic and ready to assist us attain emergence in 2035. It takes only committed and devoted people that you are, for a great nation. When God has blessed you with something that makes you stand out amongst your peers, you should not be surprised if someone starts grumbling or scheming against you. All you can do is just keep pushing each day to do one little thing more to accomplish God’s will in your life. I believe with people like you, we can attain emergence even by 2025. Centuries ago, Reginald B. Mansel said A pessimist is one who makes difficulties of his opportunities; an optimist is one who makes opportunities of his difficulties”.

Dear Delegates, Distinguished ladies and gentlemen;
As we have been called to serve here today in Menchum, let us take greater commitment for our dear Fatherland. After all, the 1924 Olympic 100 meters champion, Harold Abraham won because, defeated and dejected as he was, after many failures told the wife If I cannot win, I won’t run” and the wife told him “if you don’t run, you can’t win”. So let us together run in other to win this race of Cameroon’s emergence.

                                      Long live Partnership Agreement
                                      Long live the Wum Municipality
                                      Long live MINHDU
                                       Long live the Republic of Cameroon
